UNSW EAA - The Home of ICAS medalist
What an amazing week for Jordan Ka Truong 2016 UNSW EAA - The Home of ICAS medalist.
On Friday 25 November 2016, Jordan Ka Truong was awarded the ICAS Science Medallion at UNSW Kensington Campus for achieving a top mark in the Year 11 ICAS Science Competition, a one hour competition comprising 45 multiple choice questions. This is an internationally recognised competition, with over 20 countries and 1 million students sitting for the ICAS competitions in 2016. Tech annually participates in this competition, and has shown great results in previous years.
I encourage all students to work hard and reach their full potential, so they may be the future leaders of tomorrow.

White Ribbon Day
Sydney Technical High School celebrated White Ribbon today with a very special assembly organised by our Year 10 and 11 SRC leaders under the guidance of Mr Nick Stokes, Wellbeing Head Teacher. Congratulations to our speakers, Elvis Cheng and Maazin Jaame who spoke eloquently and with passion about this Year’s White Ribbon theme, ‘Breaking the Silence’, and how our young men at Tech can prevent violence against women. You can find their speeches here. Year 10 SRC produced a dramatic video with the theme ‘drawing the line’ from this Year’s White Ribbon campaign, which can be found here. Richard Zhou impressed us all with his playing of Schubert’s Impromptu Opus 90, No3. We were delighted to welcome our guest speaker, White Ribbon Ambassador Shen Megalaa, who is currently teaching English at Belmore Boys High School, and told students about his pride in the strong women who have influenced who he is today. School Captain, Pakajan Narendiran, led Tech in taking the White Ribbon Oath.
My congratulations and thanks to our student leaders of this very important assembly, with the most important message: that violence against women is never acceptable.
Spice of Life
Oil on Canvas
In a world where the greatest pursuit is to blend in, culture and heritage has become the most submerged part of one’s life. My oil and impasto paintings depict my Grandfather and Grandmother sharply piercing into my own rich culture through their eyes, a window to their memories, stories and traditions. Inspired by Nicholas Harding’s thick texture and evident strokes, my artwork similarly holds his sentiments to transform ‘a normal sensible person’ into ‘unique in the art world’. It is only through the process of immersing myself within the textured wrinkles, the rough flesh and the folds of traditional clothing, that I have come to understand the importance of my Indian background in moulding the way I think now, and what I will become in the future. It is through completing this artwork that I have come to understand my background as the ‘Spice of Life’.
