A day at Sydney Tech

Year 7 participated in a Creativity and Innovation Workshop on 12 December 2018. The aim was to inspire them into thinking about their future careers and to introduce them to terms like "machine learning", "artificial intelligence" and "blockchain".

As part of the workshop the students had to build a tower out of only dried pasta, 1 metre of string and 1 metre of sticky tape, but be strong enough to hold a marshmallow. The winning team, with a 65cm tower was Paramvir, Mahdi, Caleb and Justin. Well done, boys!

Congratulations to Adam Robey who has once again been selected to attend this prestigious summer school in Canberra, as a result of his outstanding achievement in the science Olympiad exams. Adam will be hoping to gain selection for the International Science Olympiads being held in Thailand next year, and the school would like to wish him every success.

Earlier this year, the national Science Olympiad Exams were held. These were competitive exams based on the senior science courses, in which more than six thousand students competed to earn a place at the Australian Science Olympiads Summer School. This summer school is held at the Australian National University and is an intensive training program held over three weeks, where students also compete to earn a place in representing Australia at the International Science Olympiads.

One of our Year 11 students, Adam Robey has achieved highly in Chemistry and Biology, as well as Physics and Earth and Environmental Science. He has gained a placement at the summer school, one of the 91 students to do so from around Australia. The summer school will be held in January 2019, at the Australian National University.

Congratulations to the champions of the Year 10 Talented Maths Day Competition! These boys rose to the challenge and will go on to represent Sydney Tech at the Year 11 Talented Maths Day, and perhaps even at the Canberra Maths Day. Big thanks to Mr Trotman, Ms Stergiou, Ms Anastas and Mr Cheung for making the day possible.

On Friday 23 November, our school was privileged to host NSW Premier Hon. Gladys Berejiklian at our WW1 Honour Board Rededication Assembly. Fittingly, on such a significant occasion, our entire school community did a wonderful job demonstrating the absolute best that our school has to offer. Former students, staff, parents and distinguished guests, all spoke with such pride and admiration of the efforts of our students whose respectful conduct throughout the day was simply outstanding.
